Pontiac Firebird | Car Review | Pontiac Firebird built BY the Pontiac division of General Motors  (GM) 1967-2002. The Firebird was introduced the same year as car manufacturer's platform-sharing model , the Chevrolet Camaro. This was the same time of launching of the 1968 Mercury Cougar, which shared its platform for a another pony car, the Ford Mustang.

Pontiac Firebird were powered by various four-cylinder, six cylinder and V8 engines of different General Motors  divisions. Although primarily Pontiac-powered until 1977, Firebirds were built a number of different engines in nearly every GM division until 1982 when GM began to stop the engines it felt useless, and disseminate models of success both for individual industries, or between all divisions to use the new engines for the corporate architecture. - CAR REVIEW
